Mee & Olia Burtaev
One of my favourite things about Mee & You Beauty is meeting all of the beautiful women (& some men too) who come into the salon. I get to chat with them & learn their stories, & sometimes I get to share them with you all too!
This month’s Mee & You guest is Olia Burtaev - she’s a 2 x Olympian for Synchronised Swimming, health professional & an all-round beauty. We spoke about everything from what a regular day looks like for her & what’s coming up for her in 2020 to her definition of beauty & how she implements self-care into her busy & active routine. I hope you enjoy this one!
What does a regular day look like for you?
A regular day for me can start as early as 5am depending on client bookings & classes. Lots of warm lemon water & coffee throughout the day. Due to the early starts & late finishes, I feel like my days are long, however, I love what I do & it really doesn’t feel like work for me at all. In between sessions, you’ll either find me tapping into more of my creative side – whether that being synchronised swimming, performances, shoots or editing.
What does Beauty mean to you?
Beauty for me comes from within. I believe if you’re happy with who you are & are confident with who you’re becoming - no one’s opinion of you can really shake you. From what I’ve learnt, if I’m content & happy with myself, that energy & feeling will reflect onto the people around me.
…. Oh, & makeup plus an occasional facial also never hurts.
How do you implement self care into your routine?
Self- care for me means taking time out to focus on myself. Being in an industry where I help people & aim to make everyone confident & happy in their own skin, it’s important for me to balance that out & make sure I don’t neglect that care for myself. My self-care routines consist of a number of small practices such as: doing my own training, including synchronised swimming & stretching), washing my makeup off every night, wearing sunscreen, painting, meditating, drinking enough water & listening to my body. I have a desire to keep learning & growing & love to educate myself & listen to videos on art history as well as maintaining my Russian language & skills.
What's your favourite treatment at Mee & You Beauty?
For the past few months, I have loved every OMNILUX Glow Treatment! Obviously, being in an industry where I constantly move, my skin can tend to break out & have its moments. After each facial, I have left feeling glowing in my natural skin & not feeling the need to cover it up with any makeup or products. You also get an epic hand massage in the process, which for me, personally, is a highlight.
What exciting things are in the pipeline for you?
2019 has been a pretty amazing year for me. I have met & worked with business, brands & clients aligned with who I am as a person which I feel pretty fortunate to be a part of. I have a few projects yet to be released this year, one is a short film due being released this year called ‘SYNC’, as well as the Calile Hotel Spring/Summer Campaign Shoot. As for the long-term, I’m going to continue focusing on building up my Stretch Program (@Stretch&Flex_) & helping athletes who are training for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics be in their best physical shape.
